Why this exists

Why GEO Glossary is positioned as an editorial-first, vendor-neutral, indie-maintained terminology reference for AI search in 2026 (we are not aware of another reference combining all three properties with public editorial methodology, but cannot claim to be the only one). The brand positioning, the founder lineage, and what we are explicitly not.

Most existing GEO / AEO / AI-search terminology references in 2026 fall into one of three categories: SaaS product-marketing collateral (a glossary that funnels readers to a paid tool), agency content marketing (a glossary as authority-building for a consulting practice), or PR-placement authority positioning (a glossary as a citation magnet for a brand-mention service). In all three cases the glossary is the funnel; the terms exist to sell the next thing.

GEO Glossary is editorial: the glossary is the product. We do not sell a SaaS tool. We do not run a consulting practice. We do not take payment for sponsored definitions. There is no next thing the terms funnel toward; the terms are the work.

When this site uses the word peer-reviewed, we mean an internal workflow of independent LLM peer review (ChatGPT web and Claude web) plus a separate research-agent fact-audit and primary-source verification, not academic-journal peer review. What the editorial-first positioning means in practice

  • Practitioner-coined terms are deliberately written where no vendor canon exists, with explicit "this is glossary-coined, not a vendor / academic standard" flagging. The reader always knows which terms are vendor-documented and which are practitioner-coined shorthand.
  • Vendor-canonical terms carry equally explicit territory framing separating vendor-documented facts (what the vendor has actually said in writing), observable engine behavior (what we have measured), and practitioner-side levers (what publishers can act on without vendor-confirmed mechanisms).
  • No sponsored entries. No "vendor preferred" framing. Tool names appear in entries when relevant to illustrate categories, not because of any commercial relationship.
  • No display ads, no popups, no lead-magnet gates. The newsletter is the only email collection; sign-up is fully voluntary and we never sell or share the list.

The site is not claiming to be primary research. It is a curated, peer-reviewed, schema-rigorous reference that synthesizes publicly documented facts (schema.org vocabulary, arXiv papers, vendor blog posts, search-engine product announcements) into one indexed, AI-citation-friendly resource. Schema markup is treated as machine-readability hygiene, not as a citation lever; the cluster discipline, practitioner-coined terminology, and the editorial oversight described on the editorial-methodology page do the heavier lifting.

Where the methodology comes from

The founder previously built a schema-rigorous AI writing tool (EurekaWrite, a NSW Selective exam prep coach). In our own tracked probes, EurekaWrite reached the top ChatGPT citation position for a target query within six weeks of launch, with no active link-building campaign. This is a single-site case study, not proof of a universal formula; the replicable mechanisms we observed are clean schema markup, practitioner-coined terminology, and cluster consistency, not "schema as a magic switch". GEO Glossary applies and extends that methodology in public: every term ships with the same discipline, the editorial workflow is documented in the open, and the citation status of the glossary itself is tracked on every term page as an ongoing field test of the same techniques.

This continuity matters because the AI-search space is full of confident claims that fall apart on inspection: schema-as-magic-switch, position-weighting myths, vendor-architecture overclaims, "first 100 tokens" lore that doesn't exist in any actual retrieval system. The methodology here is built around skepticism of those claims and verification against primary sources. When we hedge, we hedge in writing on every affected entry; when we get a primary source wrong, we publish the correction with a dated changelog.

Who runs this

A solo project by an indie founder building peer-reviewed, cluster-consistent reference work. No team, no ads, no popups, no lead-magnet gates. The newsletter is the only email collection; sign-up is fully voluntary and we never sell or share the list.

What we are not
